A convicted sex offender who once resided in Pelham died Thursday in a crash while fleeing police with a teenage boy in South Carolina.
According to authorities, 27-year-old Adam Mauro was being pursued by police for driving erratically. They say he drove head on into a tractor-trailer. The 14-year-old boy with Mauro was ejected from the car and flown to a hospital. Police believe the teenager had gone missing from Connecticut a few days ago.
Mauro was first under investigation in 2000 after the Westchester District Attorney?s office found child porn on a computer in his Pelham home. Then in 2004, Mauro was accused of inappropriately grabbing teenage boys in a video store where he worked. He was due back in Westchester next week to answer those charges.
