Days after Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco posted a controversial article on his Facebook page, he has put out a statement explaining it as an accident.
Sheriff Falco says he often looks into the validity of information shared on social media to determine if there is a local impact or threat to public safety. He says while attempting to send the article to an investigator for analysis, he inadvertently shared it to his personal Facebook page.
As News 12 reported, Falco came under fire for sharing the article titled, "Racist Black Thugs Shoot White Baby in the Face for the Fun of it." It's about an incident that occurred in 2013.
In a statement Friday, Falco says, "I sincerely apologize for my actions and the pain they have caused...over the past several days I have spoken to many members in our community in an effort to better understand, and work to reduce racial inequality within our county."
Falco has said from the beginning it was shared on accident.
