Dozens of business owners at Arcadian Shopping Center in Ossining are fuming after a contractor accidentally cut cables to their stores Friday.
A backhoe operator with A and F Commercial Builders was working on a new grocery store in the plaza on Route 9 when he accidentally severed cable and telephone wires. The area is clearly marked that it needs to be hand dug, but the backhoe was used.
Frank Martin, of Seraphina Pizzeria, claims to have lost about $7,000 since Friday. Planet Wings, which relies on the phone for takeout orders, puts its loss at up to 80 percent.
Several storeowners plan to sue the contractor, saying not having Internet access, credit card service or phones hurt their businesses.
Phone calls to the contractor were not returned.
Verizon workers spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday working to restore the services.
