Construction blasting sends rocks flying into homes
Construction explosions in White Plains resulted in the injury of at least one and damage to several cars and homes.
Blasting at Henry Place and North Kensico Avenue around noon Wednesday sent rocks flying into neighborhoods, crashing into homes and through windows.
"There was about four to five that they were doing. They shook the house. It felt like an earthquake,? said Michael Lombardo, whose property was damaged by the blasting.
Lombardo said his uncle was hit in the back of the head with a rock during the blasting, but is all right. A man who lives more than 200 yards away from the blasting site also reported damage to his home.
A spokesman from the New York State Department of Transportation apologized for the mishap and wanted to assure residents that all damage sustained to homes and vehicles would be handled by the department as quickly as possible.
Blasting has been suspended as investigators try to get to the bottom of what happened.
