A candidate for Rep. Nita Lowey’s congressional seat says he was the victim of a cyber-attack during a Zoom town hall meeting.
Mondaire Jones, congressional candidate for the 17th District, says Friday's meeting about COVID-19 relief efforts, which drew nearly 100 attendees, was overtaken by a broadcast of child pornography.
Jones condemns the attack, saying in part, "It is beyond the pale to use the suffering of children to inflict political violence. Targeting a civic-minded public meeting with the intent to traumatize its participants and make them fearful of gathering has absolutely no place in our elections."
The campaign has not identified the perpetrators, and is unsure of the motive.
Moving forward, the campaign says it will take increased security measures to prevent the hijacking of virtual events.
