Concrete falls from overpass onto Bronx River Parkway
Falling debris from an overpass shut down part of the Bronx River Parkway Monday in Yonkers.
Officials say the roadway is closed southbound from Scarsdale to Palmer roads and will remain closed through part of Tuesday. Concrete from the West Pondfield Road overpass fell onto the road, but no cars were hit.
Officials attribute the Presidents Day holiday with the fact that no one was injured, saying more cars could have been on the road.
Engineers are being brought in to assess situation before the Bronx River Parkway reopens. The overpass remained open after the incident.
The Department of Transportation believes weather conditions alternating between rain and snow and unusually high temperatures may have caused the problem.
