Con Edison and a utility workers union reached a deal overnight, averting a walkout that would have involved thousands of workers.
Final negotiations are underway in Tarrytown. The tentative agreement between the utility company and the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2 is expected to be finalized on Sunday.
The last deal expired at midnight Sunday. The new agreement includes better health protections, the ability to work from home and a pay increase.
One of the key points of the deal is the union's request for an improved benefits package due to the current pandemic. More than 700 members have caught coronavirus, according to the union.
The new deal runs through June 2024. Con Edison confirmed the agreement and tells News 12 it is working on sending an official statement.
