Con Edison started to create trenches Monday as part of the installation process for new power lines in Yonkers.
The project includes the building of an underground transmission line that will improve electrical facilities on Riverdale Avenue.
The project runs from Riverdale Avenue through Prospect Street and ends at Tuckahoe Road. Officials say those streets will be ripped up and traffic delays are to be expected.
Officials say that even though half of the line is located in Yonkers, the project stands to benefit people living in the Bronx and Manhattan.
The project will take up to a year to be completed.
