The community is rallying around a Hendrick Hudson High School student who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier this year.
In April, having discovered a mass on her shoulder, 15-year-old Alex Figueroa was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. The disease spread to her lungs, and news of the diagnosis spread through Hendrick Hudson High School, where Figueroa was finishing her freshman year.
Figueroa's friends and community members have organized fundraisers -- including a motorcycle ride at the Cortlandt Youth Center, for example -- and created a GoFundMe page to help cover medical costs.
A friend says Figueroa's positivity is giving everyone else in the community hope that she will push through.
