Comedians and musicians from across the state honored deceased comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair in Peekskill Saturday.
They gathered at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater for performances that McNair's sister said the comedian would have loved. "He would have smiled about it and told a couple of jokes," said Sheryl McNair.
McNair, a Peekskill native, was killed last year when a Wal-Mart truck crashed into his vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike. Comedian Tracy Morgan was seriously injured in the same crash.
Proceeds from Saturday's event will go to the Jimmy Mack scholarship fund. All of the money hasn't been counted yet.
The event capped off festivities in McNair's honor, including a festival earlier on Saturday.
"We are going to continue the legacy," said McNair's daughter Denita. "We are going to keep people laughing, keep the joy and the happiness."
