Community mourns worker killed in NYC crane accident
Pelham residents Monday are mourning the loss of a construction worker killed in the tragic New York City crane accident.
Wayne Bleidner was one of at least seven people killed in the accident. The 51-year-old Pelham resident was operating the crane at the time of the accident Saturday on Manhattan?s East Side. Officials say the crane was attached to an apartment tower under construction when it broke away and toppled onto buildings as far as a block away.
Investigators have been on the scene of the accident since Saturday trying to figure out if it was a human or mechanical error that led to the tragedy.
The mood was somber at places around the community where Bleidner frequented. Many residents say they can?t believe he is gone. Bleidner is survived by his wife and son.
A wake is scheduled for Tuesday at Pelham Funeral Home. A funeral mass will take place at St. Catherine?s Church in Pelham Wednesday.
