A petition to dissolve the village was verified by the clerk as a valid document on Friday after being submitted earlier this month.
Petitioners hope to consolidate the village and its government operations into the Town of Highlands to save money.
Village leaders now have a month to set a date for residents to vote.
If approved, Highland Falls would have six months to dissolve.
News 12 reached out to the mayor for comment but hasn't heard back.
