Classes resume at Somers H.S. after chemical spill
Students and staff are back at Somers High School Thursday after they were forced to evacuate due to a chemical spill.Firefighters and hazmat crews rushed to the school Wednesday after a chemistry student accidentally dropped a bottle with bromine. The chemical is often used as a sanitizer, but if inhaled, it can damage the respiratory system.The school was evacuated to a nearby elementary school and students and staff were then given an early dismissal. Eleven people were taken to the hospital, but did not suffer any injuries.A cleanup crew was brought in to make sure the school was safe for students and faculty.Related information: Chemical spill forces Somers school evacuation
