Showcase Cinemas confirmed to News 12 that Showcase Cinema de Lux, located at City Center in White Plains, will be closing at the end of October.
A spokesperson for the company said the closure is due to a "failure to come to terms with a new lease agreement."
The movie theater is located on the third floor of City Center, which houses multiple businesses, including Target and ShopRite.
The impending closure has many White Plains residents upset.
"First the Galleria, then the movie theater," said Wendy Kirkpatrick, a White Plains resident. "One of the reasons White Plains is so desirable is you step out your doorway and everything is there and if they are going to start eroding and taking everything away, you know, it’s not so good anymore."
Showcase Cinemas has two locations in Yonkers, one at Ridge Hill and the other along the Cross County Parkway.
