St. John's Episcopal Church in Yonkers hosted a number of needy families Thursday for a free Thanksgiving feast.

Sandra Eickenberg was one of about 200 people attending the event. She says she's been coming for about 10 years.

"I just thank God for this place," Eickenberg says. "The warm meal, hot meal, I mean oh my goodness. And you get doubles and triples."

The menu included Thanksgiving staples like turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. 

Nadine Burns-Lyons is the executive director of the Sharing Community, the organization that has been hosting the holiday feast for the past 34 years. Burns-Lyons herself has participated in 25 of those events. She says about 100 volunteers helped out.

"These people take the time away from their families," she says. "They could be home making their dinners or lounging around watching the football game, and they choose to come here and serve the less fortunate. And that's really special." 

The Bethesda Baptist Church of New Rochelle served about 250 people as well. Organizers say it took about 50 volunteers six weeks to put it all together.
