Churches hesitant to reopen with limited capacity

Rev. Dr. Sedgwick Easley says Union Baptist Church will reopen when at least 75% capacity is allowed.

While Gov. Andrew Cuomo says churches, mosques and other places of worship can now open in limited capacity, some local churches are not so quick to reopen their doors.
Rev. Dr. Sedgwick Easley, of Union Baptist Church, says at least three people from the church have died because of COVID-19. "We have felt the direct impact of COVID-19, we have lost pillars of our church, many of our hard-working, longtime members."
Gov. Cuomo says religious buildings will be allowed to operate with 25% of their usual capacity once the region they are in reaches phase two of the state's reopening plan.
However, Rev. Dr. Easley says choosing who would be allowed to come back would be difficult, so the church will continue to host online church services for now.
