Some church services continued to reopen to visitors after months of virus-related closures.
St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan on Sunday celebrated its first in-person public Mass in months.
The Archdiocese says it will limit capacity to 25% as attendees must continue to follow guidelines, including social distancing and wearing a face covering.
A federal judge blocked New York state from enforcing from enforcing the 25% capacity on indoor religious gatherings when other types of gatherings are limited to 50%.
Pastor Troy Dechoen, who has served at the Mount Vernon Heights Congregational Church for 20 years, says that while he is frustrated parishioners can't worship in person together, running back too soon may be problematic.
He says he won't be opening the church doors just yet and will still be following the governor's guidelines, and continue to livestream virtual services as a way to assemble every week. The pastor says he's encouraging other faith leaders to follow suit.
Dechoen says whenever the church doors open, they will be working with contact tracers and will take temperatures of worshippers before entry.
A spokesperson for Gov. Andrew Cuomo says they will review the ruling and work with the state on the next steps.
