Puerto Rican children displaced by Hurricane Maria received gifts Tuesday evening at an event at City Hall in Yonkers.

Mayor Mike Spano’s Hispanic Advisory Board said the event was about recognizing families displaced by Hurricane Maria, and that what better way to do it then by recognizing one of their traditions.

The event featured three kings marching into a room full of families, many of whom are new members of the community.

Yonkers Public Schools identified more than 100 new students in their district displaced by Hurricane Maria. Kids lined up for a toy donated by several organizations, including the Yonkers Federation of Teachers and the Westchester Law Enforcement Agency.

Organizers say that the leftover toys will be taken to surrounding hospitals to be given to children.
