Family and friends gathered Monday for a ceremony honoring a soldier and Yonkers firefighter who is currently serving overseas.
The ceremony at the Yonkers Fire Department Headquarters honored Marine Corps Sergeant Joseph Martino. He has been a firefighter for 14 years, and is serving his third activation and second tour of duty in Iraq.
Martino?s wife raised the Marine Corps flag as their four daughters watched, and a special plaque will remain at Local 628 while he is abroad. Sharon Martino says her husband will undoubtedly feel honored by what his brotherhood has done for him.
