A broken bell that has been out of commission for decades was fixed to celebrate the 325th anniversary of the founding of a Yonkers parish.
The 900-pound bronze bell perched atop St. John’s Church in Getty Square went silent back in the 1980s after it froze in its tower.
The bell had provided the one-note soundtrack to the city for almost 200 years.
Fixing the bell required an intricate plan that involved tens of thousands of dollars, a crane and a team of workers from both side sides of the Atlantic.

The historic bell was sent to Ohio and later Holland to be repaired.
It’s now back in business, 10 months and four decades later.
