Intense wind in downtown Poughkeepsie made for some close calls, as pieces of the Double Tree Hotel were pulled off the north side of the building.
Branches, insulation and trash also filled the air.
Public transit commuters labored against the wind to get to the bus terminal on Market Street.
Double Tree guests told News 12 they noticed the windstorm from inside.
"We're on the sixth floor," Josh Culverhouse said. "You can just hear the wind whipping."
Culverhouse is in town with his mother, Esther, to celebrate his 40th birthday with a concert. The wind has slowed them down. It has not stopped them.
"We came up on a windy weekend, which could be his father from above," Esther said, referencing her late husband, "and we're here to see Dropkick Murphy's."
The Double Tree's manager said no one was hurt inside, no one had to evacuate, and no pieces of the exterior fell on anyone outside.
Several local community members, including Tyrone Daly, said they had been struggling all day just to get to the store or bus stop.
"I wouldn't recommend anybody to be outside at this time. It almost blew me back," Daly said. "I know I only weigh about 170 pounds, but this wind is ridiculous."
News 12 has not received any reports of injuries or major property damage as a result of Monday's intense wind.
