(AP) - A smell of gas has forced the Shoprite PlazaShopping Center in Carmel to be evacuated Thursday morning while utility crews look for the source.

Carmel firefighters were called at 9 a.m. to Gold's Gym in the shopping plaza because of a gas odor. Nothing was found. Then a Laundromat in the shopping strip called about the gas. Firefighters say the odor seemed to dissipate.

Then at 10:50 a.m. a call from the Shoprite Supermarket about the gas odor prompted the fire department to evacuate the store and eight others in the shopping plaza.

Crews from Central Hudson Gas and Electric are at the scene looking for the source.
