A new Day Laborer Center is now open in Yonkers, and the archbishop of New York was there to celebrate
Timothy Cardinal Dolan was on hand to open the doors to the new facility.
Since 2009, Catholic Charities has been helping men and women earn a living and become part of their communities through the United Workers programs in Yonkers.
They train over 100 workers each year and provide educational workshops and leadership training - while expanding the skill sets of day laborers.
"We offer regular trainings and programming. This includes of course construction certified training. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and our partners from Wind of the Spirit are here today to lead the fabulous training," says Lucia Goyen, director of day laborer programs.
The workers also have access to higher level trade courses such as electricity and scaffolding.
