Candidates court voters before primary elections
As primary voting day nears, candidates were out kicking their campaigns into high gear over the weekend.County legislator Clinton Young spent Sunday rallying his troops at Mount Vernon High School. The six-term lawmaker is challenging incumbent Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis for the Democratic nomination.
"We need better day-to-day management of this city," Young said.
Davis chose a more subdued approach, greeting supporters at Hartley Park and defending his 12-year record leading the city.
"We've had some hills to climb, but we certainly have brought this city into a respectful place," said Davis.
In Yonkers, Mayor Phil Amicone gathered his supporters for what he called a pre-victory rally at a community center Saturday. His challenger in the Republican primary is former City Council President Vincenza Restiano.
Amicone hammered home his point that he has brought progress to the city.
News 12 will have complete election coverage of all local primary races starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 18.
