Coyotes are on the prowl in the Homefield neighborhood of Yonkers, residents say.
Although an occasional coyote sighting is fairly common, Eileen Montalto says she's seen more than usual this summer. So she set up a camera Tuesday and says, to her surprise, it captured multiple sightings.
Montalto says coyotes recently attacked two stray cats that were defending a kitten, and she fears for the safety of her children and dog.
"I don't want them here anymore," she says.
Licensed trapper Jim Dreisacker, of Westchester Wildlife, says it's not quite that simple, as the state does not allow trappers to relocate coyotes. He says he must euthanize the captive canines by law.
Dreisacker recommends avoiding contact with coyotes by keeping pets indoors at night and never leaving food outside. If one acts aggressively or attacks, residents should call authorities.
