BX man accused in son's death undergoes evaluation
The Bronx man accused of strangling his 2-month-old son to death and burying his body in the woods in Duchess County is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
Police say Jose Feliciano, 51, is being charged with two counts of murder and manslaughter after police found the remains of Mason Whyte in the woods along Route 22 in Dutchess County.
Investigators say the baby had been choked to death just days before on Dec. 10.
Feliciano was expected to be arraigned Monday, but it is not likely he will appear in court for the next few days.
Feliciano and his 31-year-old girlfriend allegedly drove the body almost 50 miles upstate to get rid of the remains. Police found the body Saturday afternoon and arrested Feliciano nine hours later in the Bronx.
Over the weekend, a staff member at New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains called police, saying that a patient believed to be the boy's mother told them about the baby's death.
The baby's mother remains in the hospital and Feliciano is under arrest while undergoing his own psychiatric evaluation.
