Some businesses are slowly trying to get back to normal after a building fire in Dobbs Ferry shut down power more than two weeks ago.

On Tuesday, the dog grooming service Primp My Paws welcomed customers for the first time since the July 22 fire at 381 Broadway.  The fire shut down electrical and gas service to about six businesses and forced people living in more than 30 apartment units out of their homes.

All the businesses that have reopened following the fire are now being operated by generator power, including Campbell’s Meats, which reopened over the weekend. Workers say that the generator power goes on and off at times, but they are still happy to be back in business.

Some people say they wonder why it’s taking so long to get the power and gas back on to some businesses and apartments.

Con Edison issued a statement that says in part, “A private electrician has to install new meter pans for the six stores affected by the fire. Restoration at the apartment complex will take a bit longer."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
