For many Italian-Americans in the Bronx, Columbus Day is more than just a day off from school.
Residents say the day is a time to celebrate their Italian heritage. Many head to the borough?s Little Italy section for traditional foods.
?It brings me back to the way I felt when I was growing up in Italy,? says Antoinette Altieri, who visits the area every Columbus Day. ?The stores, the people, the food, it's part of our heritage.?
Loyal customers of some Arthur Avenue stores say it?s the flavor of the food and the Bronx that keep them coming back for more.
