10h agoA road on the Harrison-Mamaroneck border was closed for several hours Wednesday after construction workers found what they thought was dynamite.
Construction workers were doing excavation work on the Mamaroneck Avenue bridge at Saxon Drive when they found what appeared to be an old stick of dynamite with wires attached.
Westchester County police responded around 10:30 a.m. The road was closed for hours as authorities investigated.
Police say the department's hazardous devices unit worked with blasting experts and found nothing explosive.
Authorities say they think the wires may have been left behind with no device. They say if there was some sort of explosive device, it's been so severely degraded since the last construction about 70 years ago that there's no longer any risk.
The road reopened around 3:30 p.m.
