There is a renewed push to save several waterfront murals in Yonkers.
Several beautiful murals are painted on buildings on Warburton Avenue and Main Street. Well-known artist and Yonkers native Richard Haas created the intricate and lifelike murals.
However, developers may put an end to the art with plans to rebuild downtown.
With the threat of one being knocked down, the Landmarks Preservation Board is looking to make the paintings a national landmark.
Many protesters argue that Yonkers should restore rather than rebuild.
After the Landmark Preservation Board votes and approves the murals as a landmark, it is sent to the City Council for final disposition. So far, no date has been set for the decision.
