State Democrats are closer to renaming Donald J. Trump State Park in Westchester and Putnam counties, but not without controversy.
Officials reintroduced a bill to strip the Trump title from the 436-acre park. Now that Democrats have control in the Capitol, the plan could pass, according to Assemblywoman Nily Rozic.
"The names of public parks and green spaces should embody New York values, and that's why I think we should either remove or rename Donald Trump State Park," says Rozic.
The park was named after Trump, who donated the undeveloped land in 2006 in exchange for a big tax break, with the provision that the park bear his name.
The park remains open, according to two spokespeople, despite reports from The Associated Press and Washington Post that say it has been closed since 2010.
