Big Blue fans ready for Super Bowl ticker-tape parade
As Giants fans celebrate their team's come-from-behind Super Bowl win against the Patriots, preparations are under way for a parade Tuesday in downtown Manhattan.
The underdog team beat the previously undefeated Patriots in Glendale, Ariz. Sunday. With less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Randy Moss caught a pass from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to take a 14-10 lead.
With 35 seconds left in the game, Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress. The Giants won 17-14.
Manning was the Super Bowl MVP with 255 yards and two touchdowns.
Fans say they had little doubt Big Blue would come through, despite having a slow start in the regular season. "Eli did a good job, everybody stepped it up. It was awesome," says Steve Fossi.
Giants faithful wasted little time snagging coveted Super Bowl XLII championship gear. A Yonkers Modell's opened at 5:30 a.m. Monday. Managers say jerseys and memorabilia are being sold right out of boxes.
The 42nd Super Bowl champs will be treated to a ticker-tape parade starting at 11 a.m. through the Canyon of Heroes in lower Manhattan.
