Big black bear leads Clarkstown police on wild chase
A big black bear in New City led police on a literal wild chase Thursday.
Clarkstown police were contacted after the bear was spotted on several lawns in the community, in one case making off with a bird feeder. The bear eventually made its way back into the woods.
Residents with firsthand contact with the bear say the whole incident has left them on edge.
"I'm actually a little bit shaky," says Argo Kastret, a resident whose yard the bear cruised through. "Never seen a bear here before."
Though still a potential danger, the bear did not show signs of aggression. While authorities have called off the search for the time being, residents are being instructed to steer clear of the mammoth beast and contact police if it is spotted.
