Day 2 of Bethpage Air Show canceled due to weather
The second day of the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach was canceled due to Sunday's inclement weather.
The decision was made in the morning for the safety of the performers and the public, as organizers say the weather would have posed a danger. No rain date is being scheduled.
It marks the second time in the show's 15-year history that it was canceled.
The show had been scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but instead of taking to the skies, the planes spent Sunday in a hangar at Republic Airport.
"We know people are disappointed, but we made the best decision that we could," says state park deputy regional director George Gorman.
State park officials say a record 82,000 people turned out to Jones Beach for the preview practice run event on Friday, and about 193,000 people showed up for opening day of the Bethpage Air Show Saturday.
The beach was at capacity by noon Saturday, and people had to be turned away.
