An Orange County farmer is devastated by the loss of her family's goats that were stolen from their pen nearly two weeks ago.
Monica Pennings says she believes the goats were stolen for meat, and is upset at what she says has been a spike in thefts from Pennings Farm on Route 94 in Warwick. Pennings says the 5-year-old goats were stolen overnight shortly after a visitor asked her to buy them to eat.
Pennings says she has also come across people taking trunk-loads of apples from the farm that can be worth hundreds of dollars.
"They always say things like 'they're just apples,'" says Pennings. "We hear that from every car. To us it's our livelihood. They're not just apples."
The third-generation farmer says police have been called more than once. While Pennings doesn't think they'll ever see their beloved goats again, she hopes by sharing their family's story, it'll help future visitors respect their farm.
Anyone with information about the missing goats is asked to call Warwick police.
