Child parachute game jumps and a mini-obstacle course were on the agenda Thursday at School 23 in Yonkers.
Westchester County's BeFit-Mobile van rolled through to encourage the students to stay active during the summer break, which starts Friday.
According to county officials, one out of three area elementary schoolchildren is overweight or in danger of becoming overweight. An expert at the event also taught kids the importance of staying clear of sugar-filled drinks, which can pack on the pounds.
"[Schools have] removed soda from a lot of machines," says Westchester County Executive Andy Spano. "They are making changes. They have more activities in the schools."
The county wants to ensure that parents keep the message going during the long summer months.
