Bedford PD fights crime on 2 wheels
Whether it's parking enforcement, crowd control or chasing criminals, the Bedford Police Department now has a brand new tool to do it all.
The department unveiled a new bicycle Friday as part of its new environmentally friendly crime-fighting unit. Several businesses in the area donated money to help purchase the bike for newly trained Bicycle Patrol Officer Joe Liburdi.
"I'll be riding in the downtown areas, for special parades and any street fairs. I'll also be in downtown depot plaza in Bedford Hills and the Bedford Village green area," Liburdi says. "It's more of a police presence ? get out and meet the people."
The Bedford police chief says he has already received a positive response from the community.
Meanwhile, another local businessman has given the department $1,000 to purchase another bike.
