Bedford Hills estate provides solace to troubled souls
A Bedford Hills estate that was once home to the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous is now a place where troubled souls can find hope.
The estate houses the Stepping Stones Foundation. The foundation was started by Lois Wilson after her husband Bill's death in 1971. Bill, who was a recovering alcoholic, founded AA with a man known as Dr. Bob.
Annah Perch, the executive director of Stepping Stones, keeps the estate and extensive archives of AA open to all as a museum. She says the Wilson's home revolved around AA. Bill wrote two famous books while at the estate. AA's Big Book is one of the best selling books in history after the Bible.
Perch says, "We want to make sure that this story is told to people who need home and sometimes it's the alcoholic himself or herself, and sometimes it's the family member."
