Beacon DPW clears streets of snow after storm
Beacon DPW crews worked hard to clear the mess Mother Nature dumped on the Hudson Valley overnight Monday.
Beacon Superintendent of Streets Mike Manzi says they lucked out in Beacon because the storm brought wet, heavy snow instead of ice, so it was much easier for his crews to quickly clear the city's streets down to the pavement.
“Once the snow really started coming down, we got everybody out and in the plows and started scraping everything and once the snow kind of subsided it melted off pretty good for us,” says Manzi.
Snowblowers plowed through the sidewalks Monday as people dug out with the sun out.
Shirley Cumberbatch says she just stayed in all morning and waited until temperatures rose and the snow started to melt to take her daily stroll in downtown Beacon. While some say this snow was pretty easy to deal with, it still left them wondering how much longer Old Man Winter is going to stick around.
