The Better Business Bureau reports that fake pet and puppy scams are up nearly 40 percent and surging this holiday season.
According to the BBB, there have been more than 16,000 pet scam complaints nationally over the past three years.
Experts say scammers often seek out the most expensive breeds, like a French or English bulldog, and “find new ways to separate you from your cash.”
The BBB says to do your research before purchasing a pet online this holiday season – and to consider it a red flag if a desired pup shows up on multiple websites.
