A large “Back the Blue” rally is expected to take place in Pearl River despite the weather.
Organizers say they are expecting a turnout of about 1,500 people - all in support of local law enforcement.
The rally is kicking off in front of the Pearl River fire station and will consist of guest speakers, patriotic music and pledge of allegiance, "The Star Spangled Banner," and a tribute to fallen officers.
Then participants will march through the town led by bag pipers. Many are prepared with flags and signs.
The rally comes as calls to end to police brutality and social injustice are echoed across the nation.
Organizers say this event gives community members a chance to back the blue.
"There are 800,000 sworn officers in the U.S. protecting our country,” says organizer Christopher O’Connell. “And it's time people realize a lot of us pay the ultimate sacrifice... and that's our lives."
