A man accused of shooting former Red Sox star David Ortiz is also wanted in for crimes allegedly committed in New Jersey.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office says that 25-year-old Rolfi Ferreira-Cruz is accused in two armed robberies that took place in Clifton on Dec. 22, 2017. Officials say that Ferreira-Cruz was identified as one of the robbers. A grand jury indicted Ferreira-Cruz on the charges, but he was never apprehended.
Ferreira-Cruz and five others are facing charges in the Ortiz shooting, which took place Sunday in the Dominican Republic. The group's alleged mastermind is still at large. The suspects were allegedly paid $7,800 for the hit.
Ortiz’s wife Tiffany Ortiz says that he remains in guarded condition at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Tiffany Ortiz in a statement released by the Red Sox Thursday also thanked Eliezer Salvador, the man who drove Ortiz to the hospital after the shooting, "for his quick thinking and swift action."
She also thanked the medical team at the Abel González Clinic who took care of him in the Caribbean nation, saying "there are no words to express our gratitude for the amazing care you provided."
