Attorney for man accused of killing wife may testify
A former neighbor of the Clintons accused of killing his wife must now find a new lawyer after his attorney stepped down.
Defense attorney Robert Buckley asked a judge Friday to let him step down as the attorney for Carlos Perez-Olivo so that he may testify on behalf of his client.
?I know some information because I certainly know him for a while. I can speak [on] the relationship between he and [his wife],? Buckley said.
Perez-Olivo is accused of killing his wife in November of 2006. The Chappaqua man claims he was driving home with his wife when a masked gunman cut them off, jumped in their car and fatally shot his wife. Perez-Olivo was shot in the stomach during the alleged incident.
Buckley told the judge he has been friends with Perez-Olivo and his family for eight years. He says he has information that could help clear his client of murder.
The judge agreed there would be a conflict of interest and gave Perez-Olivo three weeks to find a new lawyer.
Perez-Olivo remains in jail on $1 million bail.
