The Jersey Shore has cemented its place in musical history – particularly in Asbury Park.
The Asbury Park Music and Film Festival will celebrate the rich history the Jersey Shore has to offer in the musical scene.
One of the main features will be a new cut of the documentary “Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption and Rock ‘n Roll,” a film which delves into the social struggles of Asbury Park and its deep musical roots.
Movie studio executive and Jersey Shore resident Tom Bernard says that a film festival of movies about music is a natural for Asbury Park.
“Music has always been big here, but I think it’s bigger than it’s ever been,” he says.
Films will be shown at the Paramount Theatre and other venues around the city.
The festival will also raise money for the community. Organizers say that festival has raised $500,000 in the last five years for music and social programs for Asbury Park students.
“We've helped Asbury Park's recovery, the economic recovery, driving new people here,” says Tom Donovan. "We celebrated it's rich history of music. And the kids, it's all about the kids."
The festival runs from April 25-28. More information can be found on the festival’s website.
