Arson investigators look into Yonkers fire
Four families have no place to live today after a suspicious fire damaged their home this weekend in Yonkers.
Fire officials say flames broke out at around 5 a.m. Sunday in a back porch area at 19 Knowles Street. The say the flames ran up the rear staircase to the third floor.
People living in the building say they woke up to smoke and flames, but managed to escaped.
About 50 firefighters put out the blaze and were able to contain it to the back of the three-story home. Five firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
The Red Cross is helping the 10 adults and seven children who don't have any place to live. Extensive repairs are needed to the back of the house before any of the people living there can move back in.
Arson investigators are working with Yonkers police to determine exactly how the fire started.
