Arrest made in New Year's Eve murder
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department says it has arrested the suspect allegedly responsible for murdering a Garrison man on New Year's Eve.
Police say 18-year-old Anthony Grigoroff shot and killed John Marcinak, 49, outside his Route 9 auto shop when Marcinak interrupted Grigoroff's attempted burglary. Police are unsure if Grigoroff acted alone.
Marcinak was found lying in a pool of blood outside his store on New Year's Eve. His wife, who has been silent since his killing, says she is somewhat relieved since the suspect's arrest, but is still deeply saddened by the tragic loss.
"We don't have a father for our children," Janet Marcinak says. "He can never be replaced and all for nothing."
Grigoroff, who is already serving time at the Putnam County Jail for an unrelated DWI, has been charged with murder, attempted burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. Police say more arrests are expected as their investigation continues.
