Arraignment postponed for accused father killer
The arraignment of a Congers man on charges he beat his own father to death was adjourned today for 90 days.
Steven Alicea was expected to face a judge in Rockland County Court today despite being found mentally incompetent to stand trial.
However, the proceeding was rescheduled for July 23 because Alicea is in an upstate psychiatric facility undergoing tests.
Police say Alicea bludgeoned his 61-year-old father, Ismael Alicea, to death with a weight bar inside their Congers home.
Before Ismael Alicea's death, his wife went to local agencies in Rockland County to seek help for Steven, who has a mental illness.
