A more than century old Hudson Valley Catholic elementary school is one of seven slated for closure by the Archdiocese of New York.
The Archdiocese of New York announced Saint Mary’s Elementary School in Wappingers Falls will be closing at the end of the current academic year.

The pre-K through eighth-grade school currently has an enrollment of roughly 118 students, and recently celebrated its 125th anniversary.

Church officials say it's just no longer financially feasible to operate schools like Saint Mary's that are underutilized and in need of significant improvements.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan issued a statement that read in part, "While we sincerely regret ever having to close any schools, the goal is to strengthen the remaining institutions and preserve Catholic education in New York for years to come."

The Archdiocese of New York says all the families affected by the closing of Saint Mary's will be welcomed in neighboring Catholic schools.

Catholic schools are also closing in Manhattan, Staten Island and Sullivan County.
Saint Mary's parents are meeting with church officials Wednesday to discuss what's next for their children.
