The Archdiocese of New York is looking to possibly merge and close more churches in the Hudson Valley.
The parishes of St. John the Evangelist and St. Bernard's Church in White Plains and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Elmsford could merge under the new proposal.
St. John would become the parish church, but Mass and sacraments would continue at St. Bernard's.
Sacred Heart Church and Our Lady of Pompeii in Dobbs Ferry, St. Matthew in Hastings and Our Lady of Perpetual Help would also merge.
Sacred Heart or St. Matthew would be the parish church, and Mass would continue at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The archdiocese attributes the reorganization to declining attendance, a lack of priests and financial issues.
