Anti-Christian graffiti was discovered on the walls of a Catholic grammar school in Hartsdale Friday morning, officials say.
Alexa Pagano, an eighth-grader at Sacred Heart School, says she was shocked to see derogatory words and drawings targeting God and the Christian faith.
"I got off the bus and came to see it," Pagano says. "It was all over the walls."
The graffiti was later cleaned up by a maintenance worker. The schools' principal says she is aware of the situation and has made a report with police. The principal says she used the instance of vandalism as a teaching moment to educate her students.
Many parents were disturbed by the news of hateful messages being scrawled on the walls at their children's school.
"It makes me feel really concerned for the safety of the children," says parent Barbara Mercurio.
